The UST Mamiya Helium 5F4 Stiff Flex Driver Shaft is engineered to deliver an exceptional combination of lightweight speed, high launch and smooth, responsive feel for golfers seeking greater efficiency from their driver.

Featuring the original Helium lightweight graphite construction, the 59g Stiff profile helps golfers generate useful clubhead speed and carry distance while retaining the controlled loading characteristics required for confident performance from the tee.

Overview

The UST Mamiya Helium 5F4 Stiff combines lightweight graphite engineering with a responsive performance profile designed around speed, launch, feel and consistency.

The Helium family was developed with a clear objective: to help golfers generate clubhead speed more efficiently through lightweight shaft construction.

For many players, a driver shaft that is unnecessarily heavy can make it more difficult to maintain speed and timing throughout the swing.

Reducing shaft weight can provide an opportunity to improve acceleration without requiring the golfer to swing harder.

However, lightweight construction must still provide sufficient stability to maintain control.

The original Helium addresses this through a carefully engineered graphite profile that combines low shaft weight with a smooth, progressive loading sensation.

In the 5F4 Stiff configuration, these characteristics are paired with additional flex resistance, making it particularly appealing to golfers who want a lightweight driver shaft without moving into a softer Regular flex.

At approximately 59g, the shaft offers a useful balance between lightweight speed and a more substantial feel than ultra-lightweight 40g alternatives.

The result is a driver shaft focused on efficient acceleration, playable launch and confidence-inspiring performance.

Performance Overview

The UST Mamiya Helium 5F4 is designed around a high-launch, mid-spin performance profile, helping golfers generate the trajectory required for useful carry distance.

Its defining characteristic is the relationship between lightweight construction and smooth Stiff-flex loading.

During transition, the shaft responds progressively rather than requiring an excessively aggressive change of direction.

This allows golfers to maintain rhythm and timing while benefiting from the reduced weight of the Helium platform.

The high-launch characteristics make the shaft particularly attractive to golfers who struggle to generate sufficient height with firmer, lower-launching driver shafts.

The 5F4 Stiff flex provides additional resistance compared with softer Helium configurations, helping maintain a controlled sensation when more speed is applied.

As the club approaches impact, the graphite construction provides a responsive feel while supporting predictable clubhead delivery.

The 59g construction also offers an appealing balance between speed and control.

Compared with heavier 70g and 80g driver shafts, the reduced mass may help suitable golfers maintain or increase clubhead speed without requiring additional effort.

The result is a shaft that delivers:

  • High-launch performance for improved carry potential
  • Balanced mid-spin characteristics
  • Lightweight speed from the 59g construction
  • Smooth and progressive Stiff-flex loading
  • Responsive feel throughout the swing
  • Efficient energy transfer
  • Controlled performance through impact
  • Consistent and predictable driver flight

Key Performance Characteristics

Lightweight Graphite Construction

The defining characteristic of the original Helium platform is its lightweight graphite design.

By reducing shaft mass, the Helium helps golfers explore additional clubhead speed potential without automatically requiring a more aggressive swing.

High Launch Performance Profile

The Helium 5F4 is designed to produce a higher driver trajectory, making it particularly useful for golfers who struggle to generate sufficient launch with lower-flight shaft profiles.

When correctly fitted, this can help improve carry distance and overall driver efficiency.

Smooth Stiff Flex Loading

UST Mamiya's F4 designation corresponds to Stiff flex.

The 5F4 provides additional resistance compared with Regular and Senior configurations while retaining the smooth, responsive feel associated with the Helium family.

Responsive Tip Characteristics

The original Helium features a launch-oriented bend profile with a responsive lower section.

This helps promote a more elevated trajectory while retaining enough control for consistent performance.

59g Performance Platform

At approximately 59g, the Helium 5F4 provides a useful combination of lightweight speed and shaft awareness.

It offers an alternative for golfers who want a lighter driver setup without moving into an exceptionally light 40g-class shaft.

Established UST Mamiya Engineering

The Helium family reflects UST Mamiya's experience in developing graphite shafts designed around the relationship between weight, loading characteristics and overall club performance.

The original Helium 5F4 provides a straightforward, performance-focused design without relying on the newer Nanocore or NCT construction used in later models.

Player Profile

This shaft is ideally suited to golfers who:

  • Have moderate to faster driver swing speeds
  • Prefer a Stiff flex driver shaft
  • Want a lightweight graphite shaft
  • Need additional launch and carry distance potential
  • Prefer smooth, progressive loading
  • Want to maintain clubhead speed without swinging harder
  • Find heavier driver shafts unnecessarily demanding
  • Prefer responsive feel without an excessively soft sensation
  • Want a high-launch alternative to low-flight performance shafts
  • Prefer a 50g-class shaft with a more substantial feel
  • Are replacing an existing UST Mamiya Helium shaft
  • Want dependable graphite performance from an established manufacturer

The 5F4 Stiff flex is particularly appealing to golfers who want the speed advantages of a lighter shaft while retaining sufficient resistance for a confident transition.

Swing speed alone should not determine the ideal shaft. Tempo, transition, release pattern, driver head weight and finished playing length should also be considered.

Why Choose the UST Mamiya Helium 5F4

The UST Mamiya Helium 5F4 Stiff is an excellent choice for golfers who want to combine lightweight speed, high launch and smooth feel without sacrificing the additional resistance of Stiff flex.

For many golfers, improving driver distance involves more than simply increasing swing effort.

The relationship between shaft weight, launch angle, spin and strike quality can have a significant influence on overall performance.

A shaft that is too heavy may make it difficult to maintain clubhead speed, while a shaft that launches too low can limit carry distance.

The Helium 5F4 provides an alternative through its lightweight, high-launch construction.

At approximately 59g, it offers a noticeable reduction in weight compared with traditional 70g and 80g performance shafts.

Its responsive bend profile helps promote a higher trajectory, while the Stiff flex provides additional resistance for golfers who prefer a firmer loading sensation.

This makes the Helium 5F4 particularly attractive to players who want the benefits of a lighter shaft but find softer lightweight profiles too active.

Unlike the newer Helium Nanocore and NCT versions, this is the original Helium design, making it particularly useful for golfers looking to replace an existing shaft while retaining familiar playing characteristics.

For golfers seeking a combination of speed potential, useful launch and dependable feel, the Helium 5F4 offers an appealing all-round performance profile.

With this shaft, you can expect:

  • High-launch driver performance
  • Controlled mid-spin characteristics
  • Lightweight speed potential from the 59g construction
  • Smooth and responsive Stiff-flex loading
  • Easier acceleration compared with heavier shaft profiles
  • Useful carry distance when correctly fitted
  • Comfortable and connected shaft feel
  • Consistent clubhead delivery through impact
  • Predictable driver trajectory
  • The established performance characteristics of the original UST Mamiya Helium family

This is a lightweight performance graphite driver shaft for golfers who want to generate speed and launch more efficiently without sacrificing Stiff-flex control — combining responsive loading, high-launch characteristics and the proven engineering of the original UST Mamiya Helium 5F4.

How long will my build take?

We aim to dispatch all orders within 1–3 working days, although many orders are dispatched sooner.

Some products require professional assembly before dispatch. Where applicable, shafts are assembled using a premium long-cure epoxy and allowed to cure fully before final inspection. This helps ensure maximum bond strength, long-term durability and the highest quality build.

During particularly busy periods, dispatch may occasionally take a little longer, but we'll always work to get your order on its way as quickly as possible.
